Playa Vista Events sponsored the Playa Vista Poker Party on Saturday, February 29, to benefit the Culver Palms chapter of Meals on Wheels, a free meal delivery service for anyone who’s homebound. The event was hosted by a Marylin Monroe impersonator, with wine, snacks and, of course, Texas Holdem poker. Meals on Wheels board member Bonnie Keady started as a driver for the organization and says she was surprised by how valuable the service is to the community. “We do a wellness check to make sure they’re okay when we deliver the meals, and if we did not exist, they could not stay in their home because they’re disabled. They can’t cook or shop. That’s what I didn’t get originally.” While some chapters around the country do get state funding, the Culver Palms Meals on Wheels is run entirely on donations, so I’m happy to report the event raised nearly $8k.
