Doc Brown’s silver DeLorean from “Back to the Future,” the 1998 Volkswagen Beetle from the Austin Powers sequel “The Spy Who Shagged Me,” the yellow Volkswagen bus from the 2006 film “Little Miss Sunshine” and the bubble-gum pink Honda S2000 from “2 Fast 2 Furious” brought some old-school movie magic to Playa Vista on President’s Day (Feb. 18).
The Petersen Automotive Museum began its parade of Hollywood’s most iconic cars in Playa Vista and toured Los Angeles landmarks such as Santa Monica Pier, Abbot Kinney Boulevard and the Hollywood Walk of Fame before returning to the museum in Mid-City.
The museum’s Abigail Backert served as the parade’s grand marshal, wearing a Soviet cosmonaut suit as she rode in the Chrysler Imperial Parade Phaeton that once belonged to President Eisenhower.
Unfortunately the 1951 Chrysler Camera Car that once belonged to Howard Hughes, founder of the Hughes Aviation Co. that once occupied all what’s now Playa Vista, had smoke coming from the engine and had to be towed away.
