A bit of the English countryside came to Cinemark Playa Vista on Saturday, Sept. 21, to celebrate the release of the feature film “Downton Abbey,” based on the beloved television series. Finger sandwiches, tiny cakes and macarons were served with tea in a spread so elegant it would’ve made Mrs. Patmore herself beam with pride.
Speaking of Mrs. Patmore, Lesley Nicol — the actress who plays the no-nonsense chef — made a special appearance before the screening. Ms. Nicol stood patiently on the step-and-repeat while costumed fans posed for selfies with the award-winning actress.
Once every last fan had a photograph, Ms. Nicol departed in her carriage and we went to watch the film. The story centers around the Crawleys and staff as they prepare for an impending visit from King George V and Queen Mary. Full of wit, romance and tears, I give the film two pinkies way up.
