Over 60 people and their dogs gathered at Roger Johnson Bluff Creek Park on Aug. 28 to celebrate the 15th birthday of Deuce, a local pup whose parents are Playa Vista residents Winter Morvant and Geoff Shames. People enjoyed Cajun dishes and baked goods prepared by Morvant, who is the founder of Winter Fate Bakes, a small-batch bakery. The dogs enjoyed over 15 types of healthy treats and a slice of healthy cake baked by Morvant with coconut flour, apples, strawberries, blueberries and bananas.
“Having so many in our community show up to celebrate Deuce’s 15th birthday was so heartwarming,” Morvant says. “He’s the ‘Grandpa’ of the neighborhood—everyone knows him and loves him. He makes friends so easily and has a gentle way of comforting dogs who are nervous around other dogs. Deuce is a two-time cancer and stroke survivor—all within the past two years. I’m very thankful to say that he’s doing very well and enjoying life here in Playa Vista. We’re very thankful and fortunate.”
