Special to Playa Vista Magazine
Twin Teeth Orthodontics opened its doors two years ago, bringing a new level of expertise, efficiency and warmth to orthodontic care in Playa Vista.
Founded by twin sisters Drs. Michelle and Christine Stepanek, this boutique orthodontic practice embodies the perfect synergy of science and artistry, delivering beautiful, healthy smiles with a deeply personal touch.
The power of two
At Twin Teeth Orthodontics, synergy is more than just a theme — it’s the foundation of everything it does. With two doctors overseeing every case, patients benefit from nearly nonexistent wait times, dual expertise on every treatment plan and an accelerated path to their dream smiles. Whether it’s clear aligners, traditional braces, fun-shaped brackets like hearts and stars or airway-centered orthodontics, Drs. Stepanek ensure each patient receives meticulous, customized care.
“Our patients become part of our Twin Teeth family,” Michelle said. “We treat every case as if it were our own, and with two orthodontists in the office, you’re always getting double the expertise and attention.”
A dream that began at age 10
Michelle and Christine’s passion for orthodontics was ignited when they underwent their two-phase orthodontic treatment at the age of 7. The transformation in their confidence was life-changing, and they knew they wanted to dedicate their careers to creating that same impact for others. When they were 10 years old, they coined the name “Twin Teeth Orthodontics”— a vision that has now come full circle.
That drive and determination carried them through years of rigorous education. As first-generation Americans, they credit their relentless work ethic to their parents, who escaped communist Czechoslovakia in 1986 in search of a better life in California.
“Our parents sacrificed everything to give us a future,” Christine said. “Their resilience and determination are what inspires us every day.”
The sisters attended UCLA for their undergraduate studies in biology before tackling the accelerated, three-year dental program at the University of the Pacific in San Francisco — one of the most demanding in the country. Through countless all-nighters, they persevered, graduating at the top of their class before continuing at UOP for their orthodontic residency.
They associated at 10 high-volume orthodontic offices all around Los Angeles, setting the stage for them to open their own boutique office. High-quality patient care, rather than volume, was their priority, and this motto continues to be their mission today.
Aesthetic, efficiency and excellence
From the moment you walk into Twin Teeth Orthodontics, it’s clear this isn’t your typical office. The space reflects the doctors’ attention to detail: a warm, contemporary aesthetic filled with natural light, wood paneling, preserved moss accents and abundant greenery. One patient described it as having “contemporary Tulum vibes,” a serene and spa-like retreat where orthodontic care feels like self-care.
Their boutique practice offers high-end, personalized treatment at competitive pricing, ensuring accessibility without compromising excellence. Patients of all ages — children, teens and adults — benefit from a full range of services, including clear aligners, traditional and champagne braces, custom 3D-printed braces, retainers and Zoom whitening.
Beyond straight teeth: A holistic approach
Twin Teeth Orthodontics incorporates airway-centered orthodontics, a groundbreaking approach that enhances both smiles and overall health.
“By addressing jaw development and alignment issues early, we can help children and adults breathe better,” explains Michelle said. “Using expanders and myofunctional techniques, we create more space for the tongue and improve airflow, reducing the risk of sleep-disordered breathing. Our efforts, in collaboration with other health care professionals, are transforming lives.”
In line with the shift toward preventative care, the office also specializes in Phase I orthodontic treatment, addressing jaw development and alignment issues in children around age 7.
“Like medicine, dentistry and orthodontics are moving towards a preventative model,” Christine said. “Why treat symptoms later when early intervention can prevent more invasive procedures like tooth extractions, gum grafting and jaw surgery? Our Phase I clear aligner treatment is esthetic, comfortable and efficient for young patients.”
A practice that feels like family
At Twin Teeth, patients don’t just receive top-tier care — they’re embraced as part of a supportive, compassionate community.
“The level of warmth, empathy and fun is stellar,” shared one patient. “The doctors and staff are consistently tender and supportive, making you feel like you’re immersed in a spa-like experience.”
Another patient echoes this sentiment: “Can’t speak more highly of my experience. The staff is warm and friendly. My appointments always started on time, and they gave such keen attention to detail. Highly recommend.”
A furry, feel-good addition
As if the experience at Twin Teeth couldn’t get any better, the practice welcomes two new team members: Ziggy and Nellie, two sibling Australian Cobberdogs. These hypoallergenic office service dogs will provide patients with comfort and joy, adding to the already soothing environment.
“Orthodontic treatment should be a positive experience,” Christine said. “And what better way to make patients smile than with a little puppy love?”
The future is bright
In just two years, Twin Teeth Orthodontics has redefined orthodontic care in Playa Vista, blending cutting-edge treatment with heartfelt service. Through synergy, passion, and precision, Drs. Michelle and Christine Stepanek are creating more than just beautiful smiles — they’re changing lives, one patient at a time.
